[Solved] KDE - application's screen refresh + effects issues

Hi guys.

I was running arch with KDE since one year and a half without any issue.

Since a recent upgrade (the 13 of december), I seem to have lost workspace and windows effects, and some applications fail to render their screen properly. No artefacts, they just seem frozen, and I must eventually force screen refresh by switching windows using alt+tab, minimizing+maximizing, or any such method.

Not all applications are concerned : intellij, chromium or sublime [text|merge] work properly, whereas konsole or firefox fail.

It started with a kwin failure at session's startup after the first reboot (but I don't remember exactly wich error it was...), and right after a second reboot I ran into this issue.

I can't find a qt or kde package upgrade right before this, I had a kwin upgrade a few days before but it seemed OK.
I had a linux-firmware upgrade, but I'm not sure if this could lead to this kind of issue.
Tried downgrading intel video drivers (that were also upgraded a few days before) , but no change.

I would be SO glad if someone could help !

By the way, I'm new on this forum, so please let me know if I missed some required information.

I am not using KDE at present, so I have no suggestions.
Your post did not mention of what your graphics system consists.  What chipset and driver are you using?  That information might be useful.

Tried downgrading intel video drivers (that were also upgraded a few days before) , but no change.

Try removing xf86-video-intel completely to switch to the modesetting driver as this is the recommended setup from KDE themselves. (Also remember to remove/rename any /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.conf files relating to intel if/as needed).

No need to change anything to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.conf files : removing xf86-video-intel did the trick!
I just can't remember if I manually installed this package, but it's fine without it.

By the way, that solved the render issue, but not the effects: I figured out that my compositor was simply disabled. All fine now.
