Lenovo IdeaPad L340 external monitor not working

Hello,

recently i made a switch from my old laptop Asus N551 (which, btw worked PERFECTLY with Arch) to Lenovo IdeaPad L340 Gaming. CPU / GPU config is:
Intel Hexa Core i7 9750H
GeForce GTX1650

As my current Arch installation is from 2012 (and i moved from Ubuntu to rolling-release like Arch because i hated all-round reconfig and reinstall every 6 months) i just replaced vanial laptop ssd with the one containing my Arch from previous laptop. Had to reinstall few drivers and things but in general it works ok EXCEPT external monitor via HDMI.

Reading posts all over internet i figured that my HDMI connector is attached to my NVidia card (with old laptop it was attached to Intel). The issue is that regardless if bumblebee is running or not xrandr won't even detect my external monitor! Not sure what to do really....

I'm using Arch, LXDM, XFCE.

$xrandr:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384
eDP-1 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 193mm

$lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 630 (Mobile)
Subsystem: Lenovo UHD Graphics 630 (Mobile)
    Kernel driver in use: i915

    Subsystem: Lenovo Device 3a2e
    Kernel modules: nouveau, nvidia_drm, nvidia

$intel-virtual-output -bfv
intel-virtual-output: version 2.99.917
display_open((null))
:0.0: has_shm?=1, event=65, opcode=130, has_pixmap?=1

:0.0 saving screen saver defaults: timeout=0 interval=600 prefer_blank=1 allow_exp=1
:0.0: randr_active?=1, event=89, error=147
:0.0: xinerama_active?=1, event=0, error=0
:0.0: dri3_active?=1
check_virtual(:0.0): has VIRTUAL1? -2
No VIRTUAL outputs on ":0.0".

I have nvidia-dkms installed. Kernel is 5.3.13 (because 5.4 versions are preventing my WiFi card from working due to some iwlwifi issues).

What should do in order to make it work?

If you currently use bumblebee you must follow: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bu … VIDIA_chip , alternatively (instead of bumblebee remove it if you try this): https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … phics_only

Also, on a sidenote, you have a Turing GPU, they are fully supported by NVIDIAs new PRIME functionality which is likely the generally preferred option if you intend to keep the card idle by default (same as above, don't use bumblebee nor the config I linked you for setting up external monitor): https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PR … er_offload

So, taking into account my card should i stick with bumblebee or go with prime? Bumblebee i have only because empirically i know it works as expected for games i like to play (World of Warships and World of Tanks).

Re: Lenovo IdeaPad L340 external monitor not working

Prime will work better and is the officially supported method, developed and endorsed by nvidia, bumblebee is a huge hack that will have worse performance in the end.

Oh, ok, then i won't even try the bumblebee method, will go with PRIME instructions right away. The thing that's confusing me is that in my /usr/lib/modules/mykernelversion folder i don't see any "extramodules" subfolder.... Not sure why, i have nvidia-dkms installed
