[SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

Pacman keyring ... again,

I'm trying hard to install Archlinux, for latest 6h without success, as for my last few attempt it's hard to pass ridiculous pacman keyring problem.

Usually I was able finally to solve it but now I got stucked on

agent_genkey failed: No such file or directory

error on attempt to init and populate pacman keys

It's just quite fresh ISO install, based on 12'19 file (the same issue on 2018 ISO what is a little strange)

So what happend to agent_genkey file ?

Please elaborate. We have no idea of knowing what problems you have previously had with this -- there's nothing in your previous posts about it.

What is your "usual" solution?

Also, please change your topic title to one that actually describes your problem: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Co … ow_to_post

Re: [SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

For may last few attempts to install Arch I got stucked on pacman not able to finish initial install of base, linux and  linux-firmware because of key ring problems.
I solved it by reseting key ring with pacman-key --init and --populate

But now I got stuck on missing file as given above.
It seems it's called by gpg, btw.

The procedure is described in wiki,

I can not pass

pacstrap /mnt base linux linux-firmware

As I remember reinstalling

archlinux-keyring

could help but it's not a case. I can not update it on Live ISO.

Any way, on any other then first attempt pacstrap hangs on

downloading required keys

now.

and after few minutes (!!) it shows

error: key "xyz" could not be looked up remotely.

Yes I do have connection ...

It seems packages are downloaded then cleared from pacman cache folder (on /mnt )as signatures are not verified as valid.

It seems only the master key is marked as having valid date

It seems:

packman-key --refresh-keys

do what's named from smile

Why it's not called just after booting ???
Why it's not stated in install wiki.
Why ... it took 9h to solve the issue.
Why no one helped on so simple issue ?

Any way install is still not possible due to wrong compression ... but still love Arch - it gives me so much problems to solve smile

What ISO are you using?

Edit: Nevermind, I see in the other thread that you were indeed using an ancient ISO. This is a symptom of that as well.

Re: [SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

The ISO was dated 02/18
Its just 2 years old not and ancient one.
I have a stack of such a CDs working as expected.
(I had the fresh new ISO but could not burn it at the moment)
So i tried to use USB stick with multi ISO boot.
Joking .. Arch is not able to install from such config ... sure.
So the only possible method for me at the moment was to use that "ancient" CD..

Anyway, installing Arch is a pain ... I assume project maintainers do not want to much users,..

BTW
Its not done, I have to start again to add a new user from the chrooted system, its 20h hours from the moment I started...

Re: [SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

Two years is ancient, especially for a rolling release. And no, Arch has no goal to be popular. See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ar … centrality

I have no idea why you think you need to 'start again' because you forget to add a user, that is something you can do post-install anyway: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ge … and_groups

Re: [SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

I wanted to say I have to configure again.

Anyway it's not working...

I arch-chrooted to add a new_user, I installed sudo as well and configured it.

But still can not log into new installation having Authentication error for both root and new_user

Shells seem to be set correctly, no PAM errors ...

Any idea ...????

Re: [SOLVED by using Lubuntu] Archlinux instalation not possible ...

Well, since this topic is about installing Arch, and you seem to be past that step, please mark this topic as solved and create a new one for your authentication issues.

EDIT: I see you have created a new topic, but again, you have provided no information in it. At the very least include a link back to this topic for some background information, but including a journal from the installed system (using chroot and a pastebin if necessary) would be more helpful..
