A very good review.
Lots of nice comments there, if you can get through all the Slackware/Debian zealots trolling to push their distros.
Get ready for an influx of new users, people (like me, a week ago)!

Might have to get some mirrors up soon. The server is going to get hammered by all the people test driving Arch. I just downloaded an update and it came down at a blistering 11.4kps. Usually I get about 80kps or so.

errr ....
http://www.archlinux.org/download.php
looks like a bunch of mirrors to me ...
Also, I do put a German site to the top in /etc/pacman.conf - the latest version of pacman.conf even has that recomendation.
For a rough estimate I would ping all the sites listed in /etc/pacman.conf and put the ones with the smallest ping times to the top.

I believe Gentoo has a utility that will test all your mirrors, and arrange them in order of speed in your mirror file. Perhaps Arch Linux could have such a utility?

Yea, it does, I think it is called mirror select. It would be nice to have a similar utility for arch, I wouldn't think it would be too bad to program, I just wish I could program better, as I would make a program myself.

Try netselect (pacman -S netselect). See http://www.worldvisions.ca/~apenwarr/ne … index.html.
You can also try mtr (pacman -S mtr). It works under console and has it's own gui.
EDIT: Not enough packages in AL? Blahh. :-)
