Gnome doesn't reliably start anymore

Has anyone else been having issues with gnome not starting recently? I first ran into an issue where GDM wouldn't start. I went into GDM config and uncommented: WaylandEnable=false

This seems to have resolved GDM for me. Now, 1 out of 4 boots, after logging into gnome through GDM, the screen just drops back to GDM. I have to reboot my machine and then it normally works. I've had one time where I had to reboot twice before it worked. If I drop down to the command line, and run startx, I get the oops-something went wrong.

I'm running an xps 13 9650. Intel graphics.

Post the journal/xorg log. From the racy nature it might simply be the old logind permissions issue, in which case you will want to add i915 to your initramfs: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … _KMS_start

Thanks for the suggestion. I added i915. That didn't seem to solve the problem, but I found this post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=248558. Since my GDM was also suffering from this behaviour, I added haveged.

Not sure this is fixed, but I haven't seen the issue happen since.

Also I'm using wayland, I'm not sure how to dump wayland specific logs? The Xorg log didn't have any warnings or errors and was quite old.

Ehm in your initial post you said you've disabled Wayland ?

Either way, journal from a gdm session will have information regardless of whether xorg or wayland is used.

Entropy issues are always possible as well and I probably should've mentioned so in the previous post.

Yes I did say I disabled wayland; I wasn't clear, I tried that once but got similar behaviour and went back to wayland.

Here is my GDM log. I'm going to give the thread a few more days to see if the problem crops up again before marking it solved.
