Unable connect to VPN with Cisco-Anyconnect due Gtk-Critical Error

I downloaded the AUR package, `Anyconnect-Client` from here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/anyconnect-client/.

You might notice I wrote a note about missing dependencies `gtk2` and `webkit2gtk`. After I installed these dependencies, I was able to launch the application and enter the host address. However, I didn't realize it didn't actually connect despite the fact that it asks me for username and password.

When I launch from the terminal I see these 2 errors:

(Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client:11085): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 18:53:32.240: IA__gtk_combo_box_text_append_text: assertion 'text_column >= 0' failed

** (Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client:12436): WARNING **: 18:53:33.373: WEBKIT_PROCESS_MODEL_SHARED_SECONDARY_PROCESS is deprecated and has no effect

I've tried googling the error but nothing comes up specifically for that critical error. I've also searched gtk-Critical errors and errors related cisco anyconnect in general, but none of the search results have solutions or explanations for the cause. I'm assuming it's an assertion error that the app tests for before it can run, but I don't know enough about GTK2 to know what this particular error means or how to fix it. Any suggestions?

My suggestion for systems where you'd use cisco anyconnect would be to simply not use cisco annyconnect but openconnect instead. It's actively updated and has easy integration in NetworkManager and other tools if needed.

Hey thanks - OpenConnect was the first option I tried. Unfortunately it doesn't work - it just keeps asking for my username and password in a never ending cycle.
