System freezing while using dual monitor

I have had problems with frequent freezing lately and it seems to consistently correlate with using dual monitor.  This has happened with more than one external monitor.  I have no idea where to begin diagnosing or fixing this problem.

How do I get back to using my dual monitor without freezing?

System76 Galago Pro laptop
Arch Linux version current as of this morning (Jan 30, 2020)
Xfce window manager
