Freeze on suspend resume with nvidia driver

Installed arch on a dell xps 9570 with gnome, xf86-video-intel, nvidia and nvidia-prime for Optimus to work and I've blacklisted the Nouveau drivers to get gdm to launch at boot with xorg-server.
Everything seems to work as expected until I lock the device to gdm and try to suspend from the pause button, then the system freezes. Repeating this in another tty with "systemctl suspend" causes the same problem, but only if gdm or gnome-shell is running.
Pressing any key after a suspend causes the screen to blink to the login screen, then go black and then become unresponsive, using sysrq shortcut or ctrl-alt-del 7 times - I always use both - allows me to reboot after about 3 minutes and trying to switch to another tty does not work and the screen stays black.
Removing the nvidia driver and only allowing the xf86-video-intel driver fixes the problem and the system is capable of resuming after suspend from gdm or the tty, so I'm wondering if I'm missing some config that needs to load the nvidia driver after resume since it gets disabled during suspend, or might this be a kernel problem?

I've searched for previous cases and there did seem to be a similar problem with the linux 5.4.3 kernel, I'm currently running linux 5.4.15.arch1-1. Is there other methods I can use to identify the problem since I have only tried dmesg and journalctl. I'm really new to logs and Linux in general so if there's any other logs or output I can look at please let me know.
