Adding New Printer "CUPS-Get-Devices request failed with status 500"

Hello,

I've been trying to get CUPS configured correctly off and on for a few weeks now and haven't had much luck. I can print to pdf with CUPS-PDF fine but when I try to add a new printer I get the following error in /var/log/cups/error_log:
[CGI] CUPS-Get-Devices request failed with status 500: Connection reset by peer

Also the log is filled (10s to 100s for every one of the above errors) with the following message that I can't link to any particular action on my end:
[Client 32] IP lookup failed - connection from localhost closed!

The error log is about 600MB, which I'm guessing isn't normal. I have tried the web interface (http://localhost:631/admin) and the command line, both will result in the Connection reset by peer error.

Before trying anything else: ensure your hostname isn't localhost: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ne … e_hostname

That does look alright, maybe post some excerpt of the log, or check if the size can be relevantly reduced by compressing it. Maybe also post

systemctl status org.cups.cupsd.socket org.cups.cupsd.service cups-browsed.service

and please use [ code ] [ /code ] tags without the spaces for posting output.

Also what printer are you trying to add by which means exactly?

I renamed the log to error_log.old and started a new log so that its easier to actually review the recent troubleshooting. The errors from this morning are:

I'm trying to set up a Brother HL-L23400W over either USB or the network (the printer is physically close enough to my desktop that I don't really care which ends up working). Mostly I am trying to use the CUPS Web Interface but I tried the lpadmin command a few times and it generates the same errors in the erro_log, and doesn't successfully add the printer.
