i can play audio CD / video DVD with a media player (vlc for example), but i can't browse CDs/DVDs with a file browser.

Re: [SOLVED] can't browse CDs/DVDs - they don't appear in file browsers

You can't mount an audio CD. It does not have a file system on it for you to mount. It has tracts on it. You can play it.

mplayer cdda://1

You can dump the tract to file if you want.

mplayer cdda://1 -ao pcm:file=file1.wav

A video DVD, such as a commercial one, has a iso 9660 file system on it and a directory structure. You can mount that to a directory. It is also content scrambled. Look at libdvdcss.

There are also optical disks that have a UDF file system on them. They are mountable too. Doesn't mean that you can do anything with them, but a iso9660 or udf file system is mountable.

thank you for your reply.

yes, i agree with you, we can't mount an audio CD. My problem is that i can't browse _data_ CD/DVD.

[guigui@guigui-ordi ~]$ sudo mount /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom
mount: /media/cdrom: /dev/sr0 déjà monté ou point de montage actif.
[guigui@guigui-ordi ~]$

OK, i just made a little update of my system, and the problem disapeared.

(i was on the archive repository fixed on august 12th 2019, and now i fixed on august 19th 2019 - I mean that i change the repository date for archive.archlinux.org server in mirrorlist)

Re: [SOLVED] can't browse CDs/DVDs - they don't appear in file browsers

Why are you doing that? Why aren't you bringing your machine up to date?
That's going to get worse over time. Or are you changing the repo date in /etc/pacman.conf and partially updating a few packages?

Wondering what the reason is for running old packages, kernel, etc.
