All files from my desktop gone and appear to be deleted post update

Hi

I recently updated trying to fix and issue with my browser and while one problem was fixed another one was created. I performed pacman -Su and updated. Rebooted and found my desktop folder blank and my vm machine file which was 48gb missing. If I navigate to home via terminal nothing is in that folder either so it is not a display issue. Nothing is in the trash as well.

Has anyone seen anything like this ?

Nothing in the official repositories will ever touch anything in $HOME

However, if you replaced /home with a symlink, a filesystem package upgrade will revert that change and make /home a directory again. There was a filesystem package upgrade about three months ago, which (depending on your update frequency) you may have recently installed.

If this is what happened in your case, then the data will still remain where it canonically resides, and you should look into using bind mounts rather than symlinks to access it at /home.
