What's the best program to use to rip a DVD to AVI? I was using acidrip for a while, but it's suddenly not working and I can't figure out why. Any recommendations?

You might try dvd::rip. The only thing I can remember using it for was a B&W movie. Dvd::rip is a frontend for transcode though which I have used quite a bit. Transcode is excellent imo but a little complicated at times.

dvd:rip generally works ok for me. It's certainly more fun than looking through mencoder man pages for 3 hours

HandBrake (PKGBUILD in AUR) is by far the fastest DVD ripping program I've seen so far. It's usage is pretty simple as well (even though there's no GUI for linux). Ripping a DVD to AVI is as simple as
HBTest -i /dev/hdd -o ~/masturbator_and_commandor.avi
Of course there are plenty of options to costumize how it works.

I'm trying to use dvd::rip but when it checks my settings, it says it can't find the rar command. I don't know which package to install for rar, and when I search the repos for rar, every library on the repo comes back. Which package do I need to install?
