[SOLVED]Finding out why system froze

Today after using the computer the usage temporarily came to a stop as my operating system froze completely.
The audio continued playing but both the mouse and keyboard were unresponsive, I didn't even allow switching TTYs.
I rebooted and ran

journalctl -b-1

to a text file and uploaded it online as text.
I wasn't able to shorten the URL so here's the whole thing: https://0bin.net/paste/mSp-XAKJYx6lk48I … k2mhun5RvG (My apologies!)

Where should I start looking for the cause?
The latest entries seem to indicate something about Nvidia GPU errors?

Re: [SOLVED]Finding out why system froze

To implement and to study.

journalctl -xb | grep -Ein "bad|crash|disable|doesn't support|error|fail|filtered out|ignoring|invalid value|line takes no |no |not found|not supported|unable|unset|warning|was not"

Re: [SOLVED]Finding out why system froze

After some testing I'm able to replicate the issue on demand.
It has something to do with flashplayer-standalone and my i3(?)
I'm using i3-gaps as my window manager and linux-lts as my kernel with nvidia-lts video drivers.
If I open any .swf file with the standalone player and move the player to a workspace which isn't currently open, the system freezes immediately or a couple of seconds later.
Moving an empty player with nothing playing in it will not cause the freeze.

I will keep investigating but if anyone has any ideas what could be going on or where to look, I'd be glad to hear them.

Re: [SOLVED]Finding out why system froze

The problem goes away if I remove the nvidia-lts package but removing it isn't an option because I need the performance for some video games.
I'll include the Xorg log in this message from a session which was frozen by the standalone Flashplayer, if it's any use.

Hi,
Adding

EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode = 0

to /etc/adobe/mms.cfg had no impact on the issue.

Re: [SOLVED]Finding out why system froze

How often does it happen?
Does the audio really continue playing? I had this before and the audio usually play for a few more seconds before just repeating a segment.
Can you use magic sysrq?
What kind of hardware?

Asus Z97-K
Intel i7-4790k
GeForce GTX 1070
16GB of DDR3 Ballistix Sport (can't remember the MHz)

The audio continued to play and the file would loop from the end back to beginning like it's supposed to.
Today I noticed that an update was available for standalone-flashplayer so I installed it through Yay.
I kinda forgot about this and gave up after days of experimenting without any success, but after updating the package and trying to recreate the problem today the issue seems to be gone.
I don't know if the update fixed the issue but I can finally close this thread.
