[SOLVED]plasma wayland no mouse/keyboard inactive on log in

I all,

When logging in to a wayland session on kde plasma, the keyboard and mouse are initially inactive/uninitialized. There is no mouse pointer and the keyboard isn't working. I have to unplug both devices from their respective usb ports and connect them again. Then they are detected and I can use the desktop normally.

Any ideas where to look for possible clues?

edit: this was a problem with lightdm. I installed sddm instead and the issue does not occur
