I previously used to use caffeine in gnome but I recently switched to i3 and i want to know an alternative to it for i3
If you don't want chains on you hand and foot, your only escape is to switch to a free operating system

What caffeine? The gnome extensions to stop the screensaver?
That depends on what you use to automatically show the screensaver and lock your screen.

That's not a thing.
Do you get a screensaver/locker or is it just that the screen turns off?
In the latter case: "xset -dpms" ("xset +dpms" will reactivate it, check "xset --help" for more details)
