No Xorg output on HDMI port when using the integrated GPU

The graphic card on my laptop has an integrated (Intel) and a discrete (NVIDIA) GPU. When using the discrete NVIDIA GPU, Xorg sends output to both the internal and the external monitors which is great. However, if I switch to using the Intel integrated GPU, Xorg only sends output to the internal monitor. Here's the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nvidia.conf:

Re: No Xorg output on HDMI port when using the integrated GPU

Nothing, that's the expected mode of operandi. The HDMI is directly hooked to your nvidia gpu, you need to use it to drive it.

If you think that it isn't post

lspci | grep -E '(VGA|3D)'
xrandr --listproviders #While having the nvidia active

Thanks V1del. So you mean there's no way to have the Intel GPU output to HDMI? Below is the output of "xrandr", "lspci" and "glxinfo":

$ xrandr --listproviders
Providers: number : 2
Provider 0: id: 0x43 cap: 0xf, Source Output, Sink Output, Source Offload, Sink Offload crtcs: 3 outputs: 1 associated providers: 0 name:modesetting
Provider 1: id: 0x1ee cap: 0x0 crtcs: 0 outputs: 0 associated providers: 0 name:NVIDIA-G0

$ lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 630 (Mobile)
DeviceName: Second VGA
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. UHD Graphics 630 (Mobile)
Kernel driver in use: i915

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation TU117M [GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile / Max-Q] (rev a1)
DeviceName: VGA
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. TU117M [GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile / Max-Q]
Kernel driver in use: nvidia

$ glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 (Coffeelake 3x8 GT2)

Re: No Xorg output on HDMI port when using the integrated GPU

You could setup reverse prime so you'll have the nvidia gpu act as the dumb pipe to what the intel gpu renders, but that really doesn't make much sense, if you're going to enable the nvidia gpu anyway use it as the primary renderer.

Thanks V1del, this is interesting. I've actually tried it yesterday, and tried it again just now, but still failed:

$ xrandr --setprovideroutputsource nvidia Intel
Could not find provider with name nvidia

Also, I still don't understand what is "provider", and what is "sink", and why these weird terms.
