Trouble connecting airpods to bluetoothctl

Hello! I'm having trouble connecting my air-pods to bluetoothctl.
I have successfully paired the device but can't connect to them.

The error message I'm getting is:

Failed to connect: org.bluez.Error.Failed

When i run systemctl status bluetooth i get :

Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: active (running) since Mon 2020-04-06 07:19:44 CEST; 3h 56min ago

Figured out after trying connect a bluetooth mouse that it is in fact, bluetoothctl that is not working.
It seems like ive encountered a problem with the firmware i my laptop which is a Dell XPS 13 2015.

When i run dmseg egrep | -i 'firm|blue'  i get:

[    0.215613] Spectre V2 : Enabling Restricted Speculation for firmware calls
[    2.742309] platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2

[   14.171446] Bluetooth: RFCOMM socket layer initialized
[   14.171451] Bluetooth: RFCOMM ver 1.11

I followed this link: https://askubuntu.com/questions/657392/ … om-216f-bt to fix the missing firmware file
But when i extract the firmware and convert it to something readable for UNIX systems i get this message:

Converting /lib/firmware/brcm/BCM20702A1-0a5c.216f.hcd to BCM20702A1_001.002.014.1443.1572.hex
Empty file

And even though the file is listed in /lib/firmware/bcrm/ when i run the dmesg command i get the same error message.

Anyone encountered this problem before, I just want to listen to music with my earbuds.

And if there is something i need to elaborate on, please let me know.

Thanks

Re: Trouble connecting airpods to bluetoothctl

I think we are tilting at windmills.  What is the output of lspci -nn   ?

Re: Trouble connecting airpods to bluetoothctl

Please make that lspci -knn .

Also post full dmesg & journalctl -b

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
