solved: xorg problem

I've installed xorg, made a configuration file(using hwd) and then changed it a little, but when I type:
startx
the window system doesn't start.
The last lines in the log file are:

(II)PS/2 Mouse: Ps2EnableDataReporting Succeeded
Free Font Path: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/misc:unscaled' ref count is 2, should be 1; fixing

There are some errors with the font directories in the log file, i don't know if it is normal.
can you tell me could be the problem?

Those are not fatal errors. Could you post some more of the logfile, in particular lines with (EE) in front of them?

the problem, that i noticed is:
there are no fonts.dir in the font folders and this gives many warnings.

The only EE was that the glx module is missing. I commented the line that includes it. Is it important?

The Graphical mode of the card is imitialized for a moment (maybe when it tests available modes) when i type startx, but then it returns to text mode and stops.

I'm with integrated sis630 VC (acer motherboard). (16mb memory)
I tried using VESA and VGA drivers.

EDIT: if the problem is the VC driver, I could try:
Current x11-drivers xf86-video-sis 0.9.1-3 X.org SiS video driver 2006-09-19

Re: solved: xorg problem

Yes, it seems reasonable to try that one. I have no experience with those cards though.

Re: solved: xorg problem

install a window manager (enlightenment, fvwm etc...) or KDE and edit ~/.xinitrc  Put "exec e16" for enlightenment or "exec startkde" for KDE in .xinitrc (not the speech marks) and save it .  Then type startx and it ought to work

Do you ever get that "Oops" feeling?

Re: solved: xorg problem

It starts fine, but the configuration menus are empty(when i try to configure KDE itself ot Konquer for example i see an empty window "empty page" or something).
How to fix this?

Thank you all for the help and excuse me for the stupid questions sad

Edit: I reinstalled KDE admin and it worked fine.
