libffi.so.7 cannot open shared object file - [SOLVED]

Hello
I have had Arch working really well until this afternoon when there were three packages which needed updating
I clicked update and everything went fine.
I continued with browsing the internet until the system froze.
I managed to get into a terminal and shutdown.
I then rebooted and this message was displayed.

system-tempfiles: error while loading shared libraries libeffi.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-udevd: error while loading shared libraries: libeffi.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

You are now being dropped into an emergency shell.
sh: can't access tty: job control turned off

After this I can't use the keyboard.
The only way I can get to a terminal is using a LiveUSB with Arch on it.
With that I can install and remove packages, but when I startx it always mentions the libeffi.so.7 error.

At the moment I am using a raspberry pi to post and surf, but I have not found any effi.so.7 to install on arch to solve this problem.

What can I do, please.
Very kind regards

Please paste your full pacman.log (you can do this from the live media using a paste service).

libeffi.so.7

Slipping fsck.

I have not found any effi.so.7 to install on arch to solve this problem.

It's because you need glasses:
https://www.archlinux.org/packages/core/x86_64/libffi/

Still post the pacman log, there's probably been more havoc.

Re: libffi.so.7 cannot open shared object file - [SOLVED]

Hello Seth and Jason Wryan.
Solved.
I had a spare ssd, I installed Debian, opened up up Timeshift.
Selected my latest backup and made sure it pointed to the correct partion and it worked.
I have Arch working.
Oh, Seth you are right I do need glasses. I've had retina detachment surgery and my eyes are screwed for a few months and not allowed glasses just yet.
Have fun and thanks for the OS help.

As long as you're aware of it… ;-)
Sorry to hear and all the best for your recovery.

Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
