What's happened to the getmail Package?
It's gone!
It's referred to by these Arch Wiki pages:
getmail
Backup Gmail with getmail
And it's a requirement for msmtp-oauth2.
Any ideas?

It was just removed, probably because it uses python2 .

If you want to revive or update it, you can find the latest PKGBUILD at [1]
Looking at msmtp-oauth2 download page[2] the aur package is about 7 versions behind upstream.
I"d focus on upgrading msmtp to see if it still needs getmail or upstream has switched to something else.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

The upstream maintainer has posted a package in the AUR, getmail.

Will it survive when it's written in Python2 or will some bot delete it again?

Have you seen some of the crap in the AUR? Python2 might be dead, but its corpse is still warm compared to some of the junk people have "helpfully" shared on the AUR.
Who knows, if getmail gets rewritten in a modern language, there's a good chance it'll end up back in the official repos.

There are no bots deleting things.
And python2 won't disappear, though at some point it will be dropped to the AUR as well.
