I am using the proprietary nvidia driver. Dual screens (laptop screen and external display that has sound built in).
Up until last night everything "just worked". I did a system update but forgot to reboot. This morning I rebooted and when things came back I had no external display. I did another update and saw that it updated nvidia and the kernel again, so I assumed the display issue was a known and fixed issue. I rebooted after that update and my external display works again, however the audio output to the external display is not detected.
Googling and checking this forum show no other obvious posts, except another nvidia one that is likely related to the display issue that was fixed in my update. I have never had an issue with the sound output being detected and I am not sure how to debug that one.
