TL;DR: It was a problem related to the /etc/resolv.conf file, check the last post
Hi folks, I'm struggling at getting an internet connection with netctl: I had to move to a new network which I never connected to and currently I didn't manage to find a way to connect to the internet, or more precisely, I've managed to connect to it, just once, I updated my packages and then after that the connection went cold dead. The situation is the same for both wired and wireless interfaces: I manage to connect to the network but I can't get any internet connection (both interfaces works fine on my Windows partition on the same machine). Up to now I've tried:
- To use netctl with wired and wireless profiles manually created using the available examples
- To use netctl with several wifi-menu profiles
- To use dhcpcd on my ethernet interface
- To connect to the intended network and to an Android access point (same situation as above, connection succeded but without actual internet connection)
I can't test previously created netctl profiles since I'm phisically away from those networks. Systemd-wise I haven't encountered any problem, I properly removed every unneeded network profile service and journalctl -xe doesn't return anything of value related to this problem. netctl status profile returns something like (I'm paraphrising since I cant' directly access the log):
netctl@profile.service
Loaded: loaded
Active: active (exited)
Process: nnn [...] (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Main PID: nnn (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Status: "online"
dhcpcd: wlan0: connected to xxxxxxxxx
dhcpcd: DUID xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
dhcpcd: wlan0: IAID xx:xx:xx:xx
dhcpcd: wlan0: Soliciting a DHCP lease
dhcpcd: wlan0: offered 192.168.xx.xx from 192.168.xx.1

dhcpcd: wlan0: leased 192.168.xx.xx for 3600 seconds
dhcpcd: wlan0: adding route to 192.168.xx.0/24
dhcpcd: wlan0: adding default rout via to 192.168.xx.1
network[nnn]: Started network profile 'profile'I can mount an Arch ISO on a USB stick and try to connect to internet from it, but since right now I'm writing to you on the same machine (from the Windows partition) I'm pretty sure it's something not related to the hardware. Thank you in advance folks!

I don't entirely understand when it fails:
Does turning off anything "netctl" and using dhcpcd on your Ethernet produce a working connection?
Offline
Boot archlinux w/ the failing network, dump the system journal (sudo journalctl -b) into a textfile and upload that from windows (or however)
Also: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Du … ibernation
This can havoc your NIC with ease.

None of the options listed above delivers actual internet access

My Arch Linux system is located on a diffrent physical drive than the one on which Windows is located to (so yeah, I was simplifing earlier when talking about different partitions), I use Windows very sporadically (maybe twice a week) and the laptop is fairly new (2mo ca) but maybe it's Windows fault for real.
Here's sudo jorunalctl -b result:

My Arch Linux system is located on a diffrent physical drive than the one on which Windows is located
Which is utterly irrelevant for the topic at hand.
I use Windows very sporadically
Which is likewise utterly irrelevant for the topic at hand.

I can't get any internet connection
How do you determine that?
Can you ping 8.8.8.8?
Did you tracepath 8.8.8.8?
Did you trigger thet problem before dumping the journal?

I've disabled it before my previous post, so those results shouldn't be affected by it.

Actually I don't know how I blindly inserted it, but I've tried sevaral times with plain bbs.archlinux.org and other sites and results are the same. And if I try to update with pacman -Syyuu I get the same results as with Firefox.
dig google.com dig @8.8.8.8 google.com drill google.com
I don't have dig installed but with drill @8.8.8.8 google.com I get:

I'll show you a magic trick and decypher
google.com. 36 IN A 216.xx.xxx.xx…drumroll…
google.com. 36 IN A 216.58.210.14There's no point in hiding all these things. The DUID is random, the google IP (range) is public and you MACs are only relevant if they're not behind a router (ie. exposed to the internet) and also only if I want to spoof them to circumvent a wifi MAC filter in which case I'm at a range where I can scan for them…
Now to the more interesting things:
What about "ping google.com; drill google.com" and since this looks increasingly like a DNS issue:
ps aux | grep resolve
stat /etc/resolv.conf
cat /etc/resolv.conf # mine says "nameserver 192.168.11.1" - there's nothing to hide here at all. It's either a rather meaningless LAN IP or a public DNS server or broken.Offline

I know that the google ip range is indeed public and some previous ones were just local ip, but since this thread will be available for >10 years on this forum I don't see the need to include gibberish that I can easily replace in a dozen of seconds on vim.

Okay, that was an easy one.
Since at /etc/resolv.conf is basically empty I just appended to it:
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4and I'm now writing to you from my Arch system. I really appreciate your help Seth, thank you very much!

Because you're running resolved it's actually not *that* simple, see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … solved#DNS
Please always remember to mark resolved threads by editing your initial posts subject - so others will know that there's no task left, but maybe a solution to find.
Thanks.
