Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

I had to put the following in .xinitrc to get dbus working:

exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session /opt/gnome/bin/gnome-session

Gnome works fine now.

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

Could you tell me, what ive to do to use testing (-tree?) packages, which position in pacman.conf and are all packages in there, gettin updated also when its in current/extra?
I dont want to break a thin here, but of course want to help and try and maybe report a bug.

edit: nevermind, couldn wait any longer lol
Added as first repo in pacman.conf upgraded and only things i noticed during upgrade: installed some packages i didnt have before, like a networkmanager thing and 2 or 3 more. necessary i guess big_smile
totem claimed that there isnt a package called totem, but it does work, it just hastn got an icon in the menu.

when i find bugs, should i post them here or bug tracker?

cheers,

What's broken with GAIM? the dbus thingies in it? In that case you're running an unofficial package.

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

But liferea is broken, how can we make it work ?
Also transmission has some segfaults (when i go to the preferences), gnome-terminal preeferences have segaults too, and I can't launch gcompizthemer cose it's shuting down after ~0,5 sec.
I'm using gnome 2.16 from testing, starting with dbus-launch --exit-with-session gnome-session.
I think it's linked with dbus, cose on old everything worked fine.
What can I do ?

EDIT:
If, after launching gnome, in terminal i do su, and then /etc/rc.d/dbus restart, everything start's working.
wtf?

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

Since upgrading from testing I'm no longer able to start networkmanager daemon nor dhcdbd daemon:

[root@archlinux sims]# /etc/rc.d/networkmanager start
:: Starting NetworkManager                                               [BUSY] /usr/sbin/NetworkManager: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
                                                                         [FAIL]

[root@archlinux sims]# /etc/rc.d/dhcdbd start
:: Starting the DBUS DHCP Client                                         [BUSY] /sbin/dhcdbd: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
                                                                         [FAIL]

I have the following versions of the relevant packages installed

[sims@archlinux ~]$ pacman -Qs networkmanager
local/gnome-network-manager 0.6.4-2
    Gnome frontend to NetworkManager
local/knetworkmanager-svn 549699-8
    A NetworkManager front-end for KDE
local/libnetworkmanager 0.6.4-4
    The Network Manager Library
local/networkmanager 0.6.4-2
    A Network Manager

[sims@archlinux ~]$ pacman -Qs dhclient
local/dhcdbd 1.14-3
DHCP D-BUS daemon (dhcdbd) controls dhclient sessions with D-BUS, stores and
    presents DHCP options
local/dhclient 3.0.4-1
dhclient is standalone client from the dhcp package

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

UPDATE

Only have problems with totem:

1. Totem hangs on playing .mp4 files. Launching from command line doesn't give useful output.

That's all atm. big_smile
Keep up the good work, thx for your hard work @all devs!

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

Everythings seems nice here, except for gdm not working (just grey background and a pointer), but starting from xinitrc works so. (With dbus-launch).

And totem doesnt want to play files over smb anymore .. annoying

I'm a bit behind on GStreamer releases, so expect those things to be working as soon as I get my hands on gstreamer0.10.

Re: Gnome 2.16 and dbus 0.93 to Testing

Three problems...

1. Starting a dbus session on login via .bashrc doesn't work, although the dbus-launch manpage says it should. The dbus session will be started, but Gnome applications can't connect to it; dbus *must* be started in .xinitrc. This may sound like a minor issue, but it can be a pain, for instance when using gnome-screensaver with Openbox.

2. Gnome-screensaver is outdated and needs to be rebuilt, it will not work with the new versin of dbus.

3. Totem is missing its icon. The menu entry has no icon and there's a blank space where the icon ought to be in a Totem window frame.
