(Solved) Tigervnc keeps giving too many tries error

Hi
Has anyone got tigervnc to work?
I configured it for cinnamon as mentioned in the wiki. Using remmina from ubuntu to connect to it. I'm pretty sure I'm giving the correct password. But it always returns invalid password and now remmina says too many incorrect attempts and locks me out.
Doesn't change even if I restart vnc server. Maybe after a long wait remmina comes back with the password prompt. Again I enter the correct password but it says invalid and locks me out. Goes on like this. I tried with blacklist timeout as zero but it didn't work. Tried with vncviewer same thing, too many incorrect attempts
At first I thought remmina had some problem but simple vnc viewer is also throwing back the same problem.
Can't see any errors or connection being made in the logs. Remmina is also the culprit. If I shutdown the server and try to connect it says too many incorrect attempts again
Driving me crazy. Can someone pls help. I want to connect to my arch Linux desktop from an ubuntu laptop. Or any other vnc that works. Thanks a lot

Are you using GNOME? If so, it has its own VPN server you can try: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/vino/

I'd start w/ the obvious: you're getting "wrong password" replies, stubbornly retry the same input that caused this output and ulitmately hit a quota.
Maybe you're just providing the wrong password. Could that be an option? 'cause there's a typo in your subject…

a) What password do you enter? Your user password or the one you created using https://tigervnc.org/doc/vncpasswd.html
b) Try a different password. Especially if this is a LAN behind a DNZ or NAT, go w/ something easy that especially only requires ASCII chars where your keyboard is equivalent to the QWERTY layout
c) As what user do you run the VNC server? How do you start it? Are there maybe multiple instances and you're connecting to the "wrong" one on the default port?
d) post your ~/.vnc/passwd

Mandatory read: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ti … nfig_files

Hi,Im sure that im entering the correct password. The one that was generated at the time of the first run of the server where it prompts to enter the password.Just in case, i also re-created a password using vncpasswd again.None of them works.
I have only one power user on the arch installation and im not logging in as root.
Im 100% that im entering the correct password. Is there a blacklist timeout threshold that works? Can i use vncconfig to configure this as mentioned in here : ourses.cognitiveclass.ai/ and then start vnc server which is going to use that parameter value. Thanks Seth.

systemctl list-unit-files --state=enabled
ps aux | grep vnc

Did you check ~/.vnc/mycomputer:*.log ?

as mentioned in here : ourses.cognitiveclass.ai

For Remmina  atleast if i gave the server number it worked. ip_address:1 where1 is by default the instance # when starting the vnc server first time or without a specific number
For e.g. vncserver :2 would mean connection string would be ip_address :2 . I guess this would be coming from the ability to start multiple vnc instances with different desktops. On 1 i started Cinnamon session and on 2 Plasma by specifying different xstartup files.
Thanks
