Hello all, I am a new user to the arch forums, and I am having a weird issue when I try and update my server that has arch on it. When I try and update my system with pacman -Syu, I get the following error
error: could not open file /var/cache/pacman/pkg/rsync-3.1.3-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst: Unrecognized archive formatit does this for many packages and the transaction fails. I have tryed clearing out the pacman cache, but get the same thing when I run pacman -Syu again. Any guideance on how I can fix this would be greatly helpfull.
Thanks
Kevin Roberts

Hello,
Thanks for the news post. I just tryed updateing libarchive to the latest version, but it won't extract it when installing it. I get the following error when doing pacman -S libarchive.
error: could not open file /var/cache/pacman/pkg/libarchive-3.4.2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst: Unrecognized archive format
error: failed to commit transaction (cannot open package file)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded. how can I install it with out pacman erroring out on it?
Thanks

The news post tells you exactly what to do.
Honestly, though, if you haven't updated in a year and a half, you'd be better off wiping it and installing a different distro

Hello, if this needs to be in a seprat topic, then will do that first of all heres a update from what I tryed yesterday. I grabbed a copy of the pacman-static package like the news post said figgured out how to install it and its still doing the same thing. I talked to a friend of mine and they said just do a full upgrade to the latest arch linux immage and that will fix the problem am having. but theirs a problem what I am running this system off of is a soyoustart dedicated server and all they have is the immage for arch 2018 it says archlinux 2018, auto installer, latest version, but I am thinking thats what the problem is. what I am wanting to do is boot the thing in to rescue mode, wipe all the disks as it stands right now, grab the latest immage, and some how through SSH as I am a blind user of linux and can't use VNC to do the install, chroot in to the iso after mounting it and follow the directions in the arch install guide and just do the commands and stuff needed to do the complete install. is their a way for that to be done because this will have to be done all through the rescue system before I change the netboot back to the hard drive to boot in to my installed system. or am I stuck with what soyoustart has and need to do this hole thing a different way. Sorry if this is off topic from what I wanting to do but figgured it might be a way for me to fix my pacman problems once and for all by doing it this way.
Thanks

No. You didn't use it. Download the direct binary and run that from anywhere. It's a static link, you don't need to install anything.
just do a full upgrade to the latest arch linux immage
That is not a thing.

Hello,
I grabbed the package from the repo once I added it to the pacman.conf file and then did pacman -S pacman-static and it installed the package thought it upgrades your pacman version, or is it a completely seprat package from the normal pacman. Just checking.
Thanks
