hi guys
The goal this thread is understand the complete flicker free boot.
I'm using sddm and kde plasma.
I'm trying to riproduce the flicker free boot but i can't it as fedora 32 with gdm and gnome.
first part works fine and then i get flicker when start sddm.
sddm can only be run on x server.
Gdm is run on wayland by default.
Could this be the reason?
is there a way to avoid flicker when x server starts?

If this is insufficient you need to post more information, which graphics chipset? Did you setup plymouth or similar ?

I followed arch wiki.
i installed plymouth-git from aur.
I use plymouth bgrt theme on "Lvm on luks".
Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake).
I'm trying in two mode:
with and without KMS ( i915 module in mkinitcpio.conf )
with KMS:
1) i see vendor logo
2) black screen
3) i see a new screen with vendor logo , password field and arch logo in bottom
4) black screen
5) sddm login
without KMS:
1) i see vendor logo
2) appear password field and arch logo in bottom on same screen...(it's great!!)
3) black screen
4) plymouth flickering
5) sddm login
in fedora 32 with gdm and gnome i see appear plymouth in same screen ( ....without kms ? ) and gdm login without flickering

I hope I have explained it well.
Thanks for the collaboration

the reason could be this at 15 page
https://archive.fosdem.org/2019/schedul … e_boot.pdf
For Xorg I don’t see a solution, so a flicker-free
user-session exit will only work on Wayland
