can't connect to ftp and smb via file manager

So I installed the arch week ago and now I need to connect to my home ftp server but every time I get the popup message "operation is not supported".
I installed samba and other file managers but the result is the same.
Almost the same thing happens when trying to connect via web browser but in this case the page stops at "about: blank".

Connecting via terminal via ftp command works.
I probably didn't install any package but after searching hours I didn't find anything.
Btw I'm using XFCE and Thunar but I tried also Dolphin PCmanFM and Nautilus.

Do you have all the required packages installed? Thunar uses GVFS to connect to FTP servers, so try to install gvfs.
