Confused about ~/.xinitrc

Hi everyone I've run into a bit of confusion when trying to solve a problem with Ibus not autostarting. The wiki suggests I add a certain line to either a ~/.xinitrc or ~/.xprofile, but I'm having some difficulty understanding what that is. My system uses the xinit in /etc/X11/xinit and I would like to configure things their so that Ibus will start for all users upon login, but heres where I get confused about what exactly I'm looking for. I dont have any text files titled ~/.xinitrc, I do have a folder xinitrc.d that contains some .sh files...Am I just supposed to create a .sh folder and add the particular line I'm supposed to? People are making it sound like it is a specific text file that I don't have as opposed to this collection of scripts and its got me really confused. I apologize, I understand this is probably a rudimentary question but I often run into things like this that seem simple but I can't find a clear answer to, which probably has a lot to do with learning disabilities but I regress.

What is ~/.xinitrc? Do I create a text file in /etc/X11/xinit titled ~/.xinitrc? Do I create a text file in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d titled ~/.xinitrc? Do I create a new .sh file in xinitrc.d? Thanks, hope to get some clarity on this.

Re: Confused about ~/.xinitrc

~ means the users home directory. .xinitrc is a single file.
From the wiki page Trilby linked

This default xinitrc will start a basic environment with Twm, xorg-xclock and Xterm (assuming that the necessary packages are installed). Therefore, to start a different window manager or desktop environment, first create a copy of the default xinitrc in your home directory

$ cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc

Re: Confused about ~/.xinitrc

If you don't know what xinitrc is, I highly doubt that you're using it itfp.

Re: Confused about ~/.xinitrc

The earlier sentence is more directly relevant:

wiki wrote:

If it is present in a user's home directory, startx and xinit execute it. Otherwise startx will run the default /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.

You have said you did not create an ~/.xinitrc ... you really should, but if you haven't, then the one under /etc/X11/xinit/ is used.
