[SOLVED]grub.cfg read from /boot/efi/grub rather than /boot/grub

OK, so something weird happened after I arch-chrooted into the install to reinstall the boot loader following a windows update (which seemed to have overwritten GRUB)

My GRUB config seems to be read from /boot/efi/grub/grub.cfg rather than the expected / boot/grub location (and both exist!). I also had to copy the amd ucode, vmlinuz and initramfs files to /boot/efi/ in order for the grub entries to actually work.
Any ideas how I can fix this?

EDIT: It turned out the EFI partition was mounted at /boot/efi instead of /boot/
