State of Brother Printer Drivers in AUR

Hi all,

while Brother *does* support Linux, the state of the Brother AUR drivers seems to be catastrophic.
I own an MFC 9332 CDW.
This driver
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brother-mfc-9332cdw/
sort of works, but duplex printing doesn't work at all.

My brother (my relative, not the printer) got a dcpl8410cdw and this thing doesn't work at all:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brot … -cups-bin/

However, when installing the official deb packages from the Brother website these printers work flawlessly.

Does anyone has a clue why the AUR packages don't work?
Especially the latter one doesn't seem to do much else then downloading and installing the official deb package.

On the plus side, the brscan* packages from AUR work just fine smile

Re: State of Brother Printer Drivers in AUR

Please edit your post and pick a more meaningful and less generic subject.

brother-dcpl8410cdw-cups-bin lacks any dependecies, notably sth. like lib32-libcups

when installing the official deb packages from the Brother website

That implies "on a debian/ubuntu system", does it?
The reason are likely the met dependcies through dpkg.

nb. that the AUR is not some official thing. ANYBODY can upload AUR packages and nothing there is systematically vetted for functionality or even malintent.

No, on an Arch system. Installing the deb package on an Arch system actually works.

Then look at the difference in the deb package and the AUR package.  Make suggestions to improve the AUR package or adopt it if need be.

EDIT: the AUR package just installs the deb package too.  So look how it is doing it and how you do it manually.  What's the difference?

Also, what does your setup of CUPS look like? Don't these drivers require proper CUPS configuration as well?
