[Solved] Failed to resize a BTRFS partition.

Hello.

I apologize for the poor quality of my expression; English is not my native language.

I am facing a partitioning problem and would need help if you will.

I have a 512GB SSD which was partitioned in GPT into a single BTRFS partition (let's name it A) occupying all the space. I wanted to create a 100GB partition (B) before it, and therefore, with the KDE Partition Manager, launched a reduction of 100GB of the size of my partition A to free up space before it.

Unfortunately, after reaching probably 20% progress in this task, the partition manager returned an error and stopped the resizing. I now find myself with an unallocated space of almost 100GB followed by the reduced partition A, as I wanted. But unfortunately, the partition A is unreadable. And so I assume that part of the data remained in the 100GB unallocated space. hmm

I suppose that even if it made an error, the partition manager would not have had the bad idea to erase data before having copied it elsewhere, and therefore that all my data is still present on the SSD. Can you tell me how to get them back?

KDE Partition Manager

I tried these two commands, to no avail:

# btrfs restore /dev/sdb /mnt/restore
No valid Btrfs found on /dev/sdb
Could not open root, trying backup super
No valid Btrfs found on /dev/sdb
Could not open root, trying backup super
No valid Btrfs found on /dev/sdb
Could not open root, trying backup super
# btrfs check /dev/sdb
Opening filesystem to check...
No valid Btrfs found on /dev/sdb
ERROR: cannot open file system

Thank you for reading my message. smile

PS : My problem was solved by the Testdisk software which found the original size of the partition and restored it.

Re: [Solved] Failed to resize a BTRFS partition.

Just reformat and restore from your last backup.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

What backup are you talking about?

My problem was solved by the Testdisk software which found the original size of the partition and restored it.
