I haven't made the ~/.xinitrc file because I thought you didn't need to when using a display manager. The wiki says the following in the Xorg page: The Xorg(1) command is usually not run directly, instead the X server is started with either a display manager or xinit. Sorry if this is trivial but this is my first linux install.

what do I do with that command? It doesn't seem like it gives me any useful information, just basic info about the package

The principal question is whether it's installed and intact (or some files deviate in existance or premisions etc.)
