[SOLVED] startx is not loading plasma5 on boot

I am planning to get rid of plasma and install tiling window manager. But before I do it, I have already encountered a problem. My startx works fine, it will load plasma, but not on login. Arch loads as expected, I enter my username and password, type startx and plasma is ready. The only problem is, that it won't start automatically. I followed wiki, but I am doing something wrong, and I do not know what.I have also disabled sddm.service.

Re: [SOLVED] startx is not loading plasma5 on boot

Your ~/.xinitrc is incorrect. Everything after the first exec line will be ignored.

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: [SOLVED] startx is not loading plasma5 on boot

export DESKTOP_SESSION=plasma
startplasma-x11

replaced

twm &
xclock -geometry 50x50-1+1 &
xterm -geometry 80x50+494+51 &
xterm -geometry 80x20+494-0 &

But no changes.

Re: [SOLVED] startx is not loading plasma5 on boot

$ systemctl get-default

If it lists multi-user.target as output, you'll have to change the test you use in bash_profile .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Re: [SOLVED] startx is not loading plasma5 on boot

Lone_Wolf gave me a hint:

$ sudo systemctl set-default graphical.target

solved the problem smile now, after entering the username and password startx runs automatically.
