Missing soundcard outputs on Intel HDA audio on HP Chromebook 13 G1

Hi all,

I've recently converted my HP Chromebook 13 G1 into an "Archbook", but I'm unable to get sound working either through the headphone jack or on-board speakers.

Probably important to note that I'm not running this as a chroot - I wiped ChromeOS and installed Arch straight onto the internal SSD.

On the wiki's recommendation, I have the following set:

And I have tried a combination of the following lines in alsa.conf. Only the one uncommented line gives me any access to my soundcards (more below.)

To prevent this sink automatically being suspended for idle, I removed the loading of 'module-suspend-on-idle' in /etc/pulse/default.pa

I have tried to add other sinks, specifying different devices (3, 7, 8, 9, 10) using the below command, and while they show up in KMix there is still no audio output.

$ pactl load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:0,3

Now, if I remove the entries in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf, or use one of the lines recommended by the wiki, I'm not able to see any soundcards on my system. I then get this message in dmesg:

Accordingly ALSA doesn't see any soundcards:

Another thread suggested blacklisting the kernel Intel HDA module, but that didn't make any difference either.

I believe I've tried everything within my knowledge to get this to work, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. Any help would really be appreciated please!

After a lot more digging, it turns out that this is quite a well-known issue with Chromebook devices, but as yet unsolved.

There's an issue open on GitHub with the GalliumOS project that has been active for almost three years on this:

There are even bugs open on Kernel.org for this, so I'll continue my search somewhere more relevant.
