Graphics Performance When Lid CLosed

I am running Arch on a System76 Lemur Pro with Gnome and 2 external monitors attached via a docking station connected over usb-c. The driver used for this connection is displaylink. When I installed Gnome it came with Wayland. I noticed this when screen sharing did not work in zoom. But with Wayland, I was able to close the laptop's lid and the external screens would still work as before. In order to be able to share and record my screen, I switched to X11 but now when I close the lid, I get terrible performance. Just moving windows around is a terrible experience. Everything takes very long and is stuttering.

When the decision is between screen sharing/recording and being able to close the lid, I chose the screen sharing wink But I would still like to know if there's maybe a way to get both. Reading on the interwebs, it may be about a power saving mode the laptop enters when I close the lid. But since it worked no probs on Wayland, I figure this is probably not the case. Any ideas?
