[SOLVED] Unexpected performance on a fresh installation

I've installed arch on a used pc that I get (Dell inspiron 14), i'm using a very light environment with awesomewm, but the pc don't run as well as I expected.
Is there any way to find what is the problem, I suppose that it's a hardware problem because the dotfiles are the same that I use on my actual pc (which owns lower specs that this (Sony vaio duo 11) and it's slower, when I try to watch videos on youtube or open multiple tabs on any browser the pc gets really slow

Dell Inspiron 14: HDD 7200rpm 320GB, 12 GB ram 2666mhz, Intel Core i5-7200U @ 2.50GHz, Intel HD Graphics 400
Sony Vaio DUO 11: SSD 128GB, 4GB ram 2100mhz, Intel Core i5-3337U @ 1.80GHz,  Intel HD Graphics 620

Update: So. I've made a benchmark for comparing the processor, I think it clearly shows that something isn't okay, can you help me to understand it?

Benchmark Sony vaio Duo : https://ibb.co/5cmG5hc
Benchmark Dell Inspiron : https://ibb.co/zP72Lcy

Sorry of for using this kind of images, it was easier for me to update it in that way.
Thanks

So you have only a vague report of one system feeling slower than the other, and it has an HDD while the other uses a SSD.  Yup, that'll happen.

With 12GB of fast RAM you should be able to mitigate the effects of the (slower) harddrive.
But you need to specify the nature of that slowness.

I'd agree this would have an impact - but given the claim of a light set up (e.g., no DE) I highly doubt either system is anywhere near running short on RAM.  So they each likely have a surplus of RAM, but only one has an SSD to initially read data from and that one is faster.

Details (including the benchmarks noted by Seth) could reveal if there really is an issue here, but so far nothing stands out as unexpected or out of the ordinary.  There is no problem to solve (at least none yet apparent or presented).

Well, it's not just slower than the other. In fact it's extremely slow even if you don't compare the pc with another. However I'm gonna make the benchmark and will update the results. Thanks for answering

Re: [SOLVED] Unexpected performance on a fresh installation

It's not so much that I don't believe there is a problem that goes beyond the difference between an HDD and an SSD, but we need to know what it is.  And the only symptom currently reported on this thread could be attributable to that hardware difference.

In addition to quantifiable benchmarks, please try to describe specific incidences that feel slow: what exactly were you doing?  Post logs from active programs and a journal from a boot where something feels slow.

I was thinking about loading some applications' profiles & cache from spinning rust into RAM.

But as we all, I am not convinced that the hard drive is solely responsible here. Waiting for that data.

I've updated the processor's benchmark, what do you think?

That you give everyone a hard time comparing some blurry images because

However, it confirms your suspicion that your system runs slower.
Unfortunately not much more because…

Some things off the bat:
* ensure there're no other CPU consuming processes
* ensure you've the microcode updates, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Microcode
* monitor the CPU c-states, eg. using turbostat. https://www.golinuxhub.com/2018/06/what … ore-linux/

Re: [SOLVED] Unexpected performance on a fresh installation

Well, it got corrected after a couple of days using the computer, maybe it was because the pc had a lot of time without being used. (Honestly, I don't know)
Thanks to everyone
