Hi,
well, I dont know what to say. I tried a lot to get my soundcard on my notebook to work. I used the wiki to follow each step but still, no sound and no errormessage.
I have alsa as a deamon and snd_intel8x0 as a module in my rc.conf. I added my user to the group "audio" but still...
The stupid thing: It worked when I installed arch last time. But now, why not?
Im ready to give any information you need but I really desperate. Everything is working (besides the webcam again) but not the sound.
Would be great if someone could help.
Thank you.

well... for starters try these:
1. run alsamixer and unmute
2. stop and restart alsa in a terminal, make sure it doesn't fail
3. make sure the modules are properly loaded by checking lsmod
errr.. i'm not the sound expert but there's some pointers

Ok, done. But the sound-modules are still loaded. Strange. I put a ! in front, thats not enough?
When I start XMMS now, it says:
alsa_get_mixer(): Attaching to mixer hw:0 failed: No such device

I removed everything from the modules list and daemon list but seems udev finds out correctly what is needed and loads the drivers/modules.
But the sound still doesnt want to work. I removed my modified asound.state and created a new one via alsactl store but no use.
I hv no error message, no nothing.

I assume you've unmuted it right?
Are you using gnome? kde? Perhaps you could try unmuting in volume control there.
How about trying to re-install alsa (not sure if this is needed anyhow)

Well not sure if yours is the same sound card as mine since there are so many i810 sound cards. Here is what I had to do...First you have to run "lspci" and it will tell you which intel chip family your sound card is. Mine is in the ICH7 family. Once I installed the needed also packages and I rand alsaconf as root and it inserted the needed aliases into modprobe.conf and life was grand. Now just so ya know alsamixer had no settings for the master sound control for me. It worked without unmuting anything.

Ok, guys, I got it.
I reinstalled Alsa and checked everything one by one:
I had to
1) unmute "external" (it was before but I just found out...)
2) mute IE958 Capture Monitor
Finally it works. I thank you guys!
