support for Intel P965 hardware (incl JMicron 36X)?

Hi guys...

any among you who use an Intel p965 board with JMicron 36X IDE controller? I'd like to know how good the support for this chipset is currently in linux land, and - more important - in Arch land... I just bought a pc with this chipset and I hope to be able to switch to (Arch) Linux... especially since I have no end of DMA problems with the damned JMicron chip under Windows.

thanks,

d. :?:

I don't have one but kernel26ck in community has support for jmicron.

hmmm... but does the install cd too? (last time I tried to install 'a' linux (actually I think it was FreeBSD) my cd-rom was not recognised as a cd-rom by the installer... so I could not install...

The latest stock kernel 2.6.18-7 has a patch for jmicron-ide , so give it a try.
If the 0.7.2 install iso doesn't work, try the new isos from tpowa : http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/newisos/

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

I have one :-)
I have installed the new isos from tpowa (10/10/2006) : http://www.archlinux.org/~tpowa/newisos/

My system runs smoothly! My 2 X  Gigabyte ethernet too!

and no problem with stuttering audio cd/dvd because of a lack of dma? 'cause that's a baaaad problem in Windows. (DMA goes away after a while, so I need to reinstall my jmicron controller all the time)

You can also use the "stock" 0.7.2 install CD on the 965 chipset.  Just pass in the following parameters when booting from the CD (at the GRUB boot line):

arch all-generic-ide irqpoll

That will allow the kernel to detect the JMicron controller and use it.
