network problem

Hi  smile

i have a weird peoblem. i'm connected to the internet with a router. when i tried to get to ftp.nluug.nl (an arch repo) in arch i got a very low speed while when i tried to do the same thing in windows i didn't had any problem.

does any one can see the problem?

i'v all noticed anther wierd thing, i know that my rothers ip is 192.168.2.1 but for some reason this is the output of route:

the 2.0 route is telling your machine what the network attached to the interface is. That is how your machine knows how to get to the default gateway, which is 2.1

You might try changing your window scaling factor on your machine. Recent kernels changed the scaling factor, and some upstream routes are misconfigured enough to cause very slow speeds, due to issues with window negotiation.

i tried to disable scaling with the fallowing command but it doesn't seem to do any thing.

echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_window_scaling

do you have any other idea?

make sure you have this too...
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_ecn

Not sure what else might be happening. You could take a packet capture with wireshark in windows, and in linux, while doing the same thing (trying to access that site), and take a look at the dumps.

i'm not sure what to do with this program. can you give some guide lines?

by the way, i tried to access this server from knoppix and got the same result as in arch.

i dont know what it worth, but i think i up to some thing. i downloaded a file (in windows) from this server and captured what happend. i can tell that all the tcp packets that were send from my ip address had a bad md5 checksum.

one more thing, i did the same thing in arch and got diffrent results. on the one hand, i didnt got the bad checksum thing. on the other hand, i got some lost packets (not a lot).
