Problems with my soundcard

Hi,

I'm using a sound blaster recon3d in my pc...It has no problems with sound, but when it comes to the mic it just doesn't work.

I don't know how to fix it...tried alsamixer and so on.

Haven't found a begginer friendly guide to fix this problem.

Re: Problems with my soundcard

Just to be sure... You tried to unmute it ? (Alsamixer -> F4 -> m on your mic)

Re: Problems with my soundcard

Are you sure the card is not broken at the hardware level?
Can you test this card on another OS? (e.g. windows with proper drivers, or even a quick ubuntu live stick)

Also, are you sure the microphone you are using is functional? Have you tested it in another device?

With mic volume at MAX and Unmuted, can you record any kind of noise in Audacity? (I give Audacity as example because you can visually see if there is low level noise or if there is absolutely nothing)
If you get noise, then it's possible you microphone itself might be faulty ( e.g. broken cable, faulty jack etc). If you don't get any kind of signal at all, then it's most likely a software problem.

I ask these because first you need to make sure it's an Arch problem and not a HW one, or else you'll "try to fix it" forever.
