I've set fancontrol up to reduce my fan speeds. This works perfectly most of the time, but occasionally my custom setting are not followed. Here are some screenshots from fancontrol_gui, at a temperature of 35°C. The fan should be at 40%, but the black dot shows it at 60% instead.
I restarted fancontrol.service, and now the curve was respected.
When this problem occured, the systemd service was running, and there was nothing obvious in journalctl. Here are the contents of /etc/fancontrol
INTERVAL=10
DEVPATH=hwmon1=devices/platform/nct6775.656
DEVNAME=hwmon1=nct6793
FCTEMPS=hwmon1/pwm2=hwmon1/temp7_input
FCFANS=hwmon1/pwm2=hwmon1/fan2_input
MINTEMP=hwmon1/pwm2=70
MAXTEMP=hwmon1/pwm2=90
MINSTART=hwmon1/pwm2=255
MINSTOP=hwmon1/pwm2=102
MINPWM=hwmon1/pwm2=102
MAXPWM=hwmon1/pwm2=255
AVERAGE=hwmon1/pwm2=1
I can provide more information on my setup, but it seems odd that there is inconsistent behaviour here.
EDIT: it only happens after suspend–wake cycles. This is the relevant bug. I've edited the wiki to mention this.
