how to extract password protected file

as the title says...
i got kde and ark wich doesn't do this.

file-roller does this as it has a password facility but it's a gnome app.

zip file format.
i just saw that i could extract a pw protected file - must be included in a new version of ark...
but how can i create 'em myself?
