[Solved] nm-applet running but not visible in system tray after update

Hello, since a few days the Networkmanager-icon is not shown anymore in the system tray after an update.
DE: xfce4

This was the update, after the problem occured:

hooks, generating initramfs

After rebooting the nm-applet disappeared.
Unfortunately I don't understand, what update could have caused this issue, respectively what's going wrong. Today I installed new updates (also kernel-update 5.4.59-1-lts), but the nm-applet is still gone.
The process is running. After killing and restarting nm-applet from the console, it is running without erros, but again not beeing showed in the systray.
Using the networkmanager via the commandline with nmcli is working.

I'm clueless ...

For some reason the notificatin area disappeared. After reenabling it - everything works fine again.
