ATI slower than expected?

I set up my Arch Linux system, but I think glxgear is going slower than expected. The direct rendering is up, but I get only 126 frames per seconds while I read in the [HOWTO] topic of this section that people even reach 4000 fps...

My computer is a Athlon2700+ with a ATI radeon 9700, I made a clean install of ArchLinux, installed hwd, xorg, mesa, mesa-utils, ati-fglrx, ati-fglrx-utils.

I used hwd -xa and aticonfing --init for having a starting /ect/X11/xorg.conf file.
I editied it for tweak the video card setting and disable AIGLX...
I modified /etc/rc.conf adding MODULES=(via_agp agpgart fglrx) and rebooted.

What I am doing wrong? Or just I should not expect such results in my system?

I enclosed the ATI report of my system:
http://nakoruru.altervista.org/ati.txt

thanks a lot.

Re: ATI slower than expected?

Try your card on a real game, and not glxgears.  Glxgears is not a benchmark, and should not be used as one.  If you're getting smooth frame rates in games, then you're okay.  If the games are chunky, then you might have to tweak some settings
