password suddenly rejected

Hi all,

I was using my laptop, screen locked and could not log back in for the life of me.

Tried tty, nothing.
All I got was "The account is locked due to 3 failed logins. (10 minutes left to unlock)"

I rebooted and it was fine, logged in without any difficulty.

Is this OK? Do I have to change my password/encryption key now?

I'm not running sshd and I did pacman -Syu a few hours before the incident.

There have been numerous posts with these kind of problems lately. My system was not affected but it would appear it has something to do with the latest pam update. Can you check in pacman log whether that package was updated. If so, you can just search the forum for the topic password or login problems and I guarantee you will find at least 20 post in the last couple of days. See if the ones marked as "solved" can help you.

Did you review all .pacnew files? One of them was for PAM recently.
