Create custom mlt render profile to use 2-pass encoding in kdenlive

How do I create a custom mlt render profile so that vp8 exports work right again in kdenlive?
mlt documentation [https://www.mltframework.org/docs/profiles/] says to use a custom profile, you have to change environment variables.
I don't see any way to do this in a kdenlive profile.
Do I really have to use root privs to drop my test profile into /usr/share/mlt/presets/consumer/, so that I can pretend it's a real, default mlt profile?

I'm under the impression I have to make a custom profile to correctly utilize 2 pass encoding, which I think broke in recent editions of kdenlive. I posted more about my path to these findings here https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=272&t=165780

There's a button to add new profiles in the render window... Does that not work for you? Seems fine here.

Pick an existing option, add a new profile give it a custom name, add pass=%passes , select 2 pass option in the side view of extended options.

Whoops just realizing this is half a necro, that's what I get for randomly clicking on threads tongue
