[SOLVED] Radeon RX580 and black screen after an usual update

A week ago I updated my system and now, when my system is booting, I just get a black screen (the screen turns off). I've already used nomodeset and amdgpu.dc=0 to see some logs. Apparently Xorg is failing because of I get a "segmentation fault error 0x10", I've searched but haven't got a solution. If it matters, I have my monitor connected to the HDMI port on the GPU.

Hopefully you can help me. Thanks in advance.

Another thing I forgot to say before: When I try to use any LiveUSB (even of other distros) when driver is loaded, I lost image, so I'm unable to reinstall any OS (in case that was the problem).

Re: [SOLVED] Radeon RX580 and black screen after an usual update

When I compared your log with my log that also using a AMD RX GPU, I found your xorg debug Backtrace started right after DRI2 and missing Setting screen physical size:

[ 65.174] (II) Initializing extension DRI2
----------------------------------------------
MISSING LINE: AMDGPU(0): Setting screen physical size to AAA x BBB

[ 65.174] (EE) Backtrace:

Fatal server error:

Another thing I noticed is since you are using AMD RX 580 that should support 4K resolution but never showed on your log:
These modeline setting are for DVI-D-0 not for HDMI-A-0.

I don't know what it could be the problem but thses two tings can be related.

Re: [SOLVED] Radeon RX580 and black screen after an usual update

I've searched about this, and I tried to add modelines with

xrandr -addmode

but I was unable since it isn't detecting the display. I tried with some .conf files (10-screen.conf and 10-monitor.conf) too but without success. I've noticed that, when the screen goes off, the graphics card literally just turns off. I would think this is a harware issue if the gpu doesn't work on Windows. So... it must be something about the driver. Tried to reinstall my system but even in the LiveUSB I get the black screen.

Re: [SOLVED] Radeon RX580 and black screen after an usual update

[ 65.154] (II) AMDGPU(0): Printing probed modes for output HDMI-A-0

I was wrong about modeline for 4K resolution. When I tried with a smaller display myself, the 4K modeline didn't show up in Xorg.log, Your HDMI-A-0 modeline output is correct.

When you bootup a LiveUSB with Xorg, did you get the same error?

I didn't have the microcode package installed, I now have it, but my problem is not fixed.

About LiveUSB problem I really don't now how to test it with the LiveUSB and save the log, cause I don't see anything.

Looks like your dkms setup is incorrect .
The pacman log indicates you have linux and linux-zen installed, but are missing linux-headers .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Yes I got the black screen on LiveUSB too. However I see that amdgpu.dc=0 may help about that and it should work. But I still got stuck into tty on my session, I have to try to use it on LiveUSB.

As I use Linux-zen, I only have the headers for that. However I installed the headers for Linux normal kernel, it didn't worked too, so................................................. it wasn't the problem.

Re: [SOLVED] Radeon RX580 and black screen after an usual update

I managed to open the LiveUSB with the

amdgpu.dc=0

so I reinstalled the whole system and worked once again. I think it was because conflicting packages or something like that. However, thank you so much for your help!
