Well, Eudora will be Free-as-in-Speech soon, too. According to several newssites the last commercial Version has been put online. The next Versions will be opensourced.

Regarding the integrated spellcheck, I even managed to get Aspell working with the plugin from 4.0.5, but I'll wait until Cyrus puts it back himself in a later release. So for now, it's just Ispell.

I used to have this on Windoze ages ago, so I've just installed it on Arch, for old time's sake. And I have to say it's just as I remember it - ugly and user-unfriendly.
A quick skim over the MLs indicates that Cyrus will probably open-source it (Apache or BSD style, not GPL) and even accept patches from other devs - can't happen soon enough, IMO.
I'll have a look again in, say, 3-6 months.
