Re: Official Arch Linux Wallpapers

Your picture isn't showing up. I really want to see it because I am a little of a half life 2 fan.

It does here, so a pastebin: http://0x0.st/8-h1.jpg

edit: @glenl I accidentally reposted your image ... link is updated in my old post or https://imgur.com/jz78TwK

Why I run Arch? To "BTW I run Arch" the guy one grade younger.
And to let my siblings and cousins laugh at Arsch Linux...

Re: Official Arch Linux Wallpapers

The center gearball seems to minimally hover above the ground what makes it pop-up/feel detached (floating head problem)
Try to make the ground surface reflective to integrate the gears w/ the scene/environment (esp. if the ring surface isn't flat)

Bonus points for something like a water spill causing hte relflection wink

Re: Official Arch Linux Wallpapers

Did, but that's besides the point.
Humans are good spotting contact (stones) and floating (birds) - something that's *almost* contacting looks like a glitch in the matrix.

Try to
- float all
- fully contact the front one
- add a reflection to the ground

and compare that to the original and figure how you feel about them.

Re: Official Arch Linux Wallpapers

Thanks for the art direction. Would you mind now if I moved on to other wallpapers?

I'm not really a fan of HDRI-only lighting but it was easier to manage in this case. I usually live with it a little while on my screen and it looks nice. The "floor" isn't shiny metal, just much less rough. Years ago I would have set these on a mirror and waited the 2 days for it to render but isn't that a little old-school? I would only have to wait an extra minute or two for it to resolve now but I'm not a fan of that look.

You are a tough crowd, but I agree with the feedback and appreciate the comments.

Here's another 5120x2880 wallpaper with a CC0 license:

It's based on this CC0 photo, but with the arch "A" overlaid, and with a reduced set of colors. It's just 424k.

How do you do that in krita?

I see you.

Blend file for the bevel gear spheres is available on gumroad. I've made a few notes in the zip file. This is Blender 4.3.2 and probably requires at least 4.something to work.

Glen, I'm late to the party, but I just wanted to say thanks for the gears model (and the gumroad blend file - sent you a few $$$ as a thanks - I look forward to playing with it!) And my intention is to not hold you back on this one scene, but just to say thank you!

Thanks, always appreciated. I've been focused on animations lately so haven't played in the wallpaper space for a while.
