webcam not working

Hi everyone!

I recently bought a cheap no-name webcam (it identifies itself as Product: "HDR webcam", Manufacturer: "HDR webcam" ...)

When connecting it to my desktop pc, the system freezes randomly and i get errors like

So far I've tried usb 3.0 and usb 2.0 as well as different kernels (linux 5.9.1, linux-lts 5.4.72) and a linux mint live image (linux 5.0.0) I had lying around. All fail the same way. On very rare occasions I can open the video stream using mplayer for a few seconds.
lsusb gets stuck as long as the camera is connected.

However when using my laptop (x220t, arch linux, basically the same setup as my desktop) the webcam seems to work fine.
